Rams Celebrate “Posadas at the Pointe”
Paseo Pointe families celebrated “Posadas at the Pointe” on December 20.
The roots of Las Posadas stretch deeply into Latin culture. It originated in Spain, but it has been a yearly celebration throughout Mexico for over 400 years. The tradition commemorates the biblical story of Mary and Joseph’s difficult journey in search of a warm place to stay the night. (Posadas is Spanish for “lodgings” or “accommodations.”) Posadas begin on December 16 and end nine days later, on December 24. Each night, one family agrees to house the festivities.
Paseo Pointe honored this tradition by providing nine activities for our families to enjoy. Activities included gingerbread house building, pinata and poinsettia crafts, luminarias, caroling, photos with Santa, food, and more!

Representative Reginald Bolding Visits Paseo Students

Paseo classroom receives $715 in literacy materials
Paseo Pointe teacher Ren Fahey received a $715 grant to provide personal libraries for his classroom.
The DonorsChoose.org grant provided 30 copies of the following books: The Outsiders, The Giver, Hatchet, and Among the Hidden, as well as a DVD of The Giver and A Cry in the Wild.
Fahey’s literary project is designed with an eye toward creating multiple student and parent engagement outcomes. Students will participate each quarter in a literary and genre study. Each student will receive one book per quarter. Since the books are theirs to keep, they will be able to highlight passages, add comments, and bring the books home to share with their parents.
They will then create projects to reflect how well they understood the novel study. Students will present their projects to classmates either digitally or with poster boards at the end of each quarter and, as a class, will watch the movie that accompanies the book.
Paseo Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
As a dual language immersion school, we strive to educate our students about world cultures. The month of September is a dedicated time to celebrate Hispanic and Latino Americans heritage and culture. Paseo Pointe School, along with the PTA, hosted a number of activities and events during this month.
A bulletin board contest was held to highlight the many Spanish-speaking countries in the world. Classrooms decorated the hallway bulletin boards with information on the selected countries. Families then had an opportunity to judge the boards at the PTA’s Family Night. Winners were:
- 1st Place — Nicaragua (Ashley Perez’s preschool class)
- 2nd Place — Chile (Christine Iwinski’s 3rd Grade class)
- 3rd Place —Dominican Republic (Lindsay Delgado’s 4th grade class).
A Hispanic Heritage Parade was also held with students representing their assigned country.
Laveen Schools Move to E-Flyers
Beginning in August 2017, Laveen schools will utilize Peachjar’s e-flyer system to distribute flyers, newsletters, and other student-centered information to parents.
E-mail blasts containing flyers from your child’s school, PTO, or non-profit student-centered activities will be sent to parents generally once a week. Flyers are maintained on a dedicated webpage for later reference.
Only school information such as school newsletters, event flyers, and PTO happenings as well as approved flyers from non-profit child-centered organizations such as Girl Scouts, ball leagues, and local community groups will be sent to the email addresses on file for each family. Parents should make sure their school office has their current email address.
Parents may sign up for a free Peachjar account to utilize added features, like combining schools. But, this is not necessary to receive flyers.
Visit laveenschools.staging2.juiceboxint.com/e-flyers for more information.
Laveen Schools Implement Student IDs
Beginning in August 2017, all students attending Laveen schools will be required to wear a student identification badge at all times while on campus or on the bus.
In addition to serving as school identification, the badges will contain a bar code for students to use as they go through the cafeteria line. Students utilizing Laveen’s bus transportation will also swipe their badge as they board and exit the bus. Read more about the Zonar bus pass system.
